CAS at SIS-PIK

Creativity Action Service (CAS) allows students to follow their passions. CAS gives students the opportunity to give back to their community, and enjoy learning through experience. It provides opportunities for self-determination and collaboration with others, fostering a sense of accomplishment and enjoyment from their work.

Each week we will feature one of our amazing JC students, and their latest CAS experiences. Please see Stanley’s story below.

May 4-5 was a weekend full of fun and new learning.  I participated in the WSC for the very first time. The WSC event is an academic event, where students in groups of 3 participate in various kinds of competition. There was a Team Debate, Collaborative Writing and Scholar’s Challenge, which was an MCQ test about the topics related to the six subjects we studied. The next day was a team quiz called the Scholar’s Bowl which was highlighted by the adoption of an alpaca.

The first day was nerve wracking. I was anxious thinking that I would not perform well. We engaged in collaborative discussions about the motions in the debate. I have to write a persuasive essay and shade bubbles for the 120-question scholar’s challenge. These events enabled me to develop new skills and enhance my critical thinking. It taught me how to analyse and gain deeper perspectives about the world on the margins. Most importantly, I learned how to work well with a team.

WSC is truly a celebration of learning! In the Scholar’s Bowl, teams competed for the correct answer by pressing the correct letter in the clicker. I enjoyed the events over all as it progressed towards the awarding ceremony. Nervous. Tensed. Excited. All our emotions were all over the place as the awarding slides started running with an epic music adding more fear and anxiety among the scholars. Then the shrieks and the screams came as one by one the names are rolled out for specific awards. It felt so rewarding to see our team ID and names flashed on screen. At the end of the day, I managed to win 5 medals. From this experience, I felt like our hard work was well compensated and we all aim to achieve even better results in the WSC Global Round.
