DR DAN’S DIARY

Dear SIS-PIK Families,
Since our last Community Updates, we have held a ‘Wellbeing Week’ at school. Finding time for wellbeing is so vital. I always say ‘a happy child is a successful child’, but the same can be said for teachers and parents too! The students had opportunities to come together and chat, undertake mindfulness activities and play games with each other to build their social connections. It was lovely to see teachers and students come together to build a huge playlist of all their favourite music to listen to! You can see a video of clips from the week below.
This week has been ‘Resourcefulness Week’ at SIS-PIK. All year, we are focused on building students’ learning power – making them more independent learners ready to face the future. Following a fun ‘Reciprocity Week’ last term, our teachers have filled this week’s lessons with tasks designed to make them consider not only the wide range of physical resources available to them, but also how these can be used effectively and creatively to help them when they are stuck. The week ended with another of our popular parent webinars, where we demonstrated some of the activities that happen in our resourceful classrooms, and our teachers shared tips on how parents can make children more resourceful at home.
I’m sure you know very well that the SIS-PIK motto is ‘Towards Greater Heights’. Whilst many schools have mottos, many don’t use these to underpin everything they do. In fact, some are in Latin, a language unknown to a lot of us. However, at our school, we really do believe that all of us are always learning, always striving to improve ourselves. To this end we had a professional development day for our teachers last week. The day was packed with training and research sessions on the latest pedagogical concepts. I’m always impressed by the drive and commitment shown by our teachers to be the very best they can be, and we hope this inspires the same in our students.
