Fine and Gross Motor Skills Development in Preschoolers
For many children, learning to put on their socks and shoes independently is an important early childhood skill and major milestone. This ability requires the development of many fine and gross motor skills. This is the reason why fine motor and gross motor activity will not be viewed as a break from N2 Love’s routine but is an integral part of it!
By pulling off and putting socks and shoes on, children practise many tactile skills such as the pinch grip, strengthening of the hand muscles, bilateral coordination, opposition of the thumb, and wrist extension.
Movements such as jumping and crawling also allow children to release energy as they practice gross motor skills. Keeping our children’s motor skill development in mind, while also considering the benefits of physical activity on children’s overall development, has successfully created lots of fun in N2’s virtual class this week!
