SIS-PIK COMMUNITY UPDATES
2021 - 2022

No.5 – 24 September 2021

DR DAN’S DIARY

Dear Parents and friends of the SIS-PIK Community,

This last week has been full of exciting activities and events – I’m sure everyone, staff, students and parents are ready for the term break!

Today has seen our termly PTC, and I hope that you and your children have found the feedback from teachers useful. We are encouraging students to take more responsibility with their learning (as I have previously outlined with our Building Learning Power initiative). PTCs are no exception, and in Secondary, all students are asked to be involved with the feedback and to be reflective about how they can improve. We have also asked all students to be reflective this week as they completed student surveys. I have read these surveys with great interest, and we will use them to work with students to continually improve the way we support them.

Over the last two weeks, students have been working on projects celebrating the mid-autumn Mooncake festival. I remember my first experience of this time of year, two years ago when I joined SIS-PIK. I have missed meeting you all in person over delicious mooncakes, but I have been inspired by the amount of creativity students from Kindergarten through to Junior College have shown as they have undertaken celebratory work in their Chinese classes. I thank our wonderful Chinese department for their commitment to this important cultural occasion. The picture colouring, dancing, poetry and lantern making in Primary and Preschool has been a particular joy.

It is in the SIS-PIK Vision and Mission that we provide an innovative education. This week, Secondary 1 to 3 students have been immersed in an Artificial Intelligence Learning Journey. AI is transforming the world, and to ensure that our students are future leaders and game-changers, we must inspire in them the design thinking skills that will put them at the forefront of AI development.

Secondary 4 students have been experiencing what happens at the ‘SIS PEAK’ of our school. They have had a whole week of talks and challenges introducing them to our unique academic programme of the IB Diploma and BTECs, and the many leadership opportunities provided in Grades 11 and 12. They were lucky enough to join our Junior College students in a talk given by Cambridge University. Good luck to all our JC2s who are beginning the university application process under the guidance of our University Counsellor, Mr Victor.

Wishing you all a restful term break,
Dr Dan
