Mid-Autumn Festival (Mooncake Festival)
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in Chinese culture. It usually comes in September or October. On that day, the Chinese usually have a sumptuous dinner and delectable mooncakes with members of their family and friends. This festival is also a family holiday. The family members are often happy, because on that day everyone stays together and shares many wonderful stories about traditional folklore surrounding the moon. It is also the day that the moon shines the brightest in the lunar calendar.
In order to let students better understand and appreciate this Chinese traditional festival – the Mid-Autumn Festival or Mooncake Festival, as it is known in Indonesia, students from N1 and N2 learnt how to draw mooncakes. K1 children learn about jade rabbits, and K2 children enjoy the art of storytelling while enjoying the mooncakes. Indeed, it is a beautiful day for family reunions.
