A MESSAGE FROM MS JEN

Improving and growing our programs at SIS-PIK

This week I am incredibly proud we will be hosting the National Competition for UBTECH Robotics.  In fact, 12 SIS-PIK students will be representing our school at the Nationals. This is an incredible achievement so early in our Robotics program!

This is a great start to developing a mindset for technology at SIS-PIK, but we must do more.

Last month, researchers at the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence tested their latest AI system called Aristo. Aristo aced a Sec 2 multiple-choice science test with more than 90 percent correct answers. Then Aristo was put to the test and took the New York Regents Science Exam (a standardized test for JC students across New York State). It answered over 80% of the questions correctly.

We are now at a point where AI software can get a B on a JC science exam. This is incredible.

But where does it leave us? It seems machines are getting much better at mental tasks that we previously thought could only be done by humans. As AI technology is able to replace us as vessels of knowledge, what must our students do so they can be competitive in the job market in the future?

Essentially we wish to build much more than a robotics program, we wish to create future programmers and design thinkers in the future.
Good luck to our young robotics programmers this Saturday for the UBTECH Robotics Competition.  May you be triumphant – and lead the charge towards Greater Heights.
