INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Our first whole school, face-to-face celebration in three years began in traditional fashion with a procession of our very youngest students, displaying their traditional dress. Then followed the official proceedings, led by Mr Hotman, supported by our senior students. Indonesia Raya was sung with huge hearts and voices by the whole school, and it was the first occasion for our new formal long-sleeve batik in the High School.

Amongst the grandeur of the ceremony, and the excitement and enjoyment of the games that followed, we did not forget that we were celebrating the fact that a group of people believed that democracy was worth fighting for; was worth having for themselves and for all people who loved and cherished freedom. We celebrated the fact that a group of people so longed to live free that they had the courage to proclaim to all the world that freedom was an inalienable right which no-one could take away, and from that day they were free men and women; that they and future generations would defend that right against all threats.
