Project Work in Primary 5
SIS-PIK Primary 5 students welcome the new school year with zest and excitement! As part of STEAM integration, SIS-PIK Primary offers a new subject, Project Work. According to an educational researcher, Sylvia Chard, “one of the major advantages of project work is that it makes school more like real life. It is an in-depth investigation of a real-world topic worthy of children’s attention and effort.”
Integrating Project Work in primary school encourages:
- a child to demonstrate his or her capabilities while working independently.
- to show the child’s ability to apply desired skills such as doing research.
- the development of the child’s ability to work with his or her peers, building teamwork and group skills.
During week 3, the students were tasked to conduct their group research as part of the systematic process of project work learning. The buzz of excitement when they came across an interesting fact in their research was undeniably satisfying. True enough, the students have shown increased engagement and became more active learners while learning how to work in a team during the process.
Here are the budding scientists, engineers, artists and mathematicians in action…
