Bringing Science Experiments to Life in a Virtual Classroom
Learning by doing is a pedagogical approach teachers often use in the teaching of Science. Hence, experimenting plays an important role to test theories they have learnt.
With virtual learning continuing to be in effect for schools, teaching a hands-on subject such as Science is indeed a challenge for educators.
Teachers need to select tools that best support learners for Science. Incorporating fun and educational science videos, websites, and apps enhance maximum participation. This year, we introduced Padlet, best described as an online notice board. The notes posted by teachers and students can contain links, videos, images, and document files. It allows students to insert ideas anonymously or with their names. Shy or timid will be encouraged to participate.
Moreover, resourcefulness is another thing that we try to inculcate in our students since materials are limited at home. Helping students become the architects of their own learning by constructing models out of recycled materials.
Science at home can still be ‘cool’ by bringing a wide variety of fun and engaging hands-on science activities year-round.
