COFFEE MORNING: SECONDARY

Message from Dr Dan
As part of my process of getting to know everyone in the SIS-PIK community, I have been meeting parents at a number of Coffee Mornings – for Primary, Secondary and Junior College parents. Last week, it was lovely to see many Secondary parents, and I enjoyed hearing positive comments about the school and ways in which we could continue to support you and your children. We are already putting into place a number of things discussed.

To support students in managing the number of assessments they have each day, I have set up an assessment calendar for staff to be able to see what other teachers are doing. I’ve enjoyed dropping in to lessons from across the year groups and seen many wonderful lessons. I will be working with Heads of Departments, undertaking training sessions on effective lesson observations and feedback to improve teaching and learning. Our teachers are very keen to continually develop their skills and I will be introducing a programme of Continuous Professional Development sessions for teachers to share best pedagogic practice. This will run alongside strategies to make our students more independent in their learning, encouraging them to be resilient, resourceful and reflective.

Over this week, the management team have been discussing calendar dates for next term, and this information will be published very shortly, along with information on upcoming revision and examination practice sessions for students who require this.

We really welcome communication with parents, either in writing, on the phone or in person. Should you have a query, in the first instance, for general issues, please email your child’s homeroom teacher. They will either be able to answer your query or know exactly who is best placed to answer. However, if you have specific issues regarding school academic matters, please do contact me directly.
