NON-STANDARD MEASUREMENT WITH K2

Measurement is a fun unit and K2 students spent a lot of time on it! The unit is divided into 2 sections: length and weight. This activity introduces measuring with non-standard or informal units. It is essential that kids get lots of practice using non-standard units of measurement before they move on to standard units, like inches and centimeters.

K2 students started with lots of hands-on, concrete learning activities. Children could measure any classroom objects they wanted. They enjoyed this activity and learnt how to measure using non-standard units: from the very beginning to the very end, measure in a straight line without overlapping, measure end to end, without leaving any gaps and use the same size units. K2 children did a great job!
