DR DAN’S DIARY

Dear SIS-PIK Families,

It was so wonderful to see so many of you last night at our Mid-Autumn Festival celebration. The performances by the children, accompanied by the setting of the sun and sharing of mooncake was truly magical and I thank you for supporting this community event.

Our Vision is to align ourselves with the very best international standards, and part of this process is to be accredited by, and join arbiters of world-wide quality such as the International Baccalaureate Organisation, Cambridge Assessment International Education, Pearson Edexcel and the Singapore Education and Assessments Board. I’m delighted to say that SIS-PIK has recently joined the Association of National and Private Schools (ANPS), an organisation which brings together the best schools in Indonesia to discuss policy, align to top international standards and undertake continuous professional development of our teachers and leaders. I was delighted to speak at the ANPS Leadership Conference last week, and also to hear an inspiring presentation by educational philanthropist Gavin McCormack entitled ‘It takes a child to raise a village’. This talk promoted the action of students in engaging with the world’s problems and empowering them to take direct action to solve them. I’m therefore very excited that our school charity Yayasan SISwa Peduli Bangsa (YSPB), run by our students, was relaunched this week. The YSPB has undertaken many ambitious projects, including building classrooms, libraries and sports facilities in remote village schools and supporting the medical treatment and education of underprivileged local children.

Last, but certainly not least, a huge congratulations to Gerald So in Grade 7. Gerald was the first winner of the SMP Category for the PixelPad GameJam 2022. To win this competition, he created a great PixelPad game based on Indonesian Independence, using the Python programming language. We are very proud of you, Gerald, and I can’t wait to see your many future achievements!
