FUN WAYS TO LEARN MATHS IN PRIMARY

Making Math fun is a great challenge. But, as a Math teacher, I can say BRING IT ON! There are many ways that we can make Math engaging and fun for our students.

Here are some ways to make Math Fun:

  • Play Games – printable or digital games are the perfect way for students to learn and have fun at the same time.
  • Ask Interesting Math Questions – students like to talk! So let’s ask them more open-ended questions. An example of this may be to ask “Why did you use this strategy to solve the problem?” Also try asking questions where there may be more than one answer. Students will become motivated to find them all.
  • Implement Engaging Routines – students will be tuned in and look forward to more when they know the set expectations.
  • Make it About the Students – substituting student names in Maths Word Problems and on using Math activity to introduce themselves to one another.
  • Go Online – there are many cool math websites such as Kahoot and Quizizz.
  • Get up and Move – include activities where students have to get up and move. It can be a brief brain break that includes Math.

Whew! There are some more ways to make Math Fun. Explore, Believe and Make it happen…
