DR DAN’S DIARY

Dear SIS-PIK Families,

My last two weeks have been an absolute joy, and I’m still beaming with happiness. This is because once again the classrooms of our school have been filled with the sounds of students engaging in learning, in supporting each other, in creating lasting connections. We humans are a social species, and it has been a tough challenge to stay isolated for so long. Greeting all of the students who came onto campus as they came through the doors has been a welcome reminder of why we educators chose careers working with children. A few notable special moments: the Primary child, naturally overwhelmed by the school lobby, tentatively going towards his classroom – emerging a few hours later with a huge smile and a thumbs up; the Secondary student who was so excited about coming to school she struggled to sleep the night before, and; the student who, on leaving after a morning’s school, was just disappointed that they must wait a week before coming back.

I understand that many parents and children are keen to have more face-to-face time in school. Rest assured, we are following all Government guidance and regulations and will extend our programme when it is safe and prudent to do so. I also understand that many families are still happy staying home with our virtual learning programme. As we extend our face-to-face time in school, we still commit to a full virtual learning programme for those who wish.

Committing whole-heartedly to virtual learning means investing a considerable amount of time considering how learning experiences can be adapted. I was amazed by the wide range of virtual learning journeys on offer to our Primary children last week, including sessions from the San Diego Zoo and an engaging lesson from the Colombian coral reefs.

At SIS-PIK we care for the whole child, through both their educational and emotional development. Next week is ‘Wellbeing Week’ at school – look out for our instagram posts showing the activities provided to support our children. A happy child is a successful child.
