The Art of “Yu”
Chinese New Year is a festival that has been celebrated for thousands of years. It is an important time for families, and for building strong relationships with each other. During this festival, people wish for blessings and luck. In our Preschool, we have started our preparations this week with art and crafts. Preschoolers learn that during Chinese reunion dinner, fish is commonly eaten. The Chinese word for fish is “yu”. It sounds like a Chinese word that means “great and plenty” and this is why people eat fish. During our art and craft lesson, our students created artwork related to the words – “年(nian )年(nian )有(you) 余(yu)”, meaning abundance throughout the year in appreciation of the upcoming festival.
