DR DAN’S DIARY

Dear SIS-PIK Families,
As always, we’ve had a busy month at SIS-PIK, helped by how energetic students and teachers were after they returned from the term break. This issue of the Community Showcase gives lots of detail on all the activities, especially the Learning Journey week. The week was all the more special as it was the first time since the pandemic where our High School students have all taken residential trips far afield. I’m sure you’ll enjoy reading about all of the trips and seeing the great photos.
Rather than go into more detail of my experiences in October, I wanted to share a few words on the most tragic and impactful event last month. Our much loved High School Maths teacher, Mr Ahmad, had struggled with his health, in particular his failing eyesight, for some time. He never complained, and never let it get in the way of training the next generation of Mathematicians. Instead, he just took more of his own time and detailed care and attention to ensure that students always received his very best tuition. I remember the fun and joy that effused in the air in his classrooms. At the end of September, Mr Ahmad’s health declined and he was admitted to hospital with severe kidney failure. Despite this he kept in good spirits, even meeting a group of students who visited him to share the best wishes of our student body. On Sunday 29th October he sadly lost his battle and passed away. He leaves behind his mother and two sisters.
Mr Ahmad was a phenomenal Mathematician. The top of his class at university, those that studied at the same time as him were inspired to become teachers because of his enthusiasm and talent. He will be dearly missed, and forever remembered.
We will be holding a memorial service to mark the life of Mr Ahmad on Monday 27th November at 8am.
With very best wishes to all the SIS-PIK family,
Dr Dan
