DR DAN’S DIARY

Dear SIS-PIK Families,
We have come to the end of another packed month at SIS-PIK. In this issue of the Community Showcase, you’ll see reports of so many of the activities in which students participated over the weeks. My diary had so many highlights. I particularly loved being a judge for the Young Inventors Awards during the Preschool and Primary STEAM Festival. I was so impressed with the mindfulness shown by our Primary students. They could identify the world’s problems, and could come up with creative and inventive ways to solve these problems. I’m proud that our students see themselves as responsible, global citizens, wanting to protect our precious planet for the good of all humankind.
Innovation was also at the heart of our High School AI week. Students in Junior High had the opportunity to hear inspiring seminars and think about the ethical issues surrounding Artificial Intelligence. It is our responsibility to ensure young people can not only use technology and be the future leaders in innovation, they must be ethical and understand both the huge opportunities, as well as the potential pitfalls, of our changing world.
The Industrial Immersion week in Primary was a new experience for our students – giving them the chance to be placed in the heart of an operating business. I was very jealous of the activities they got to be a part of – especially the trip to the ice cream factory!
We finished this term with a real ‘bang’ – our school musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. The performances were wonderful, with Ms Gan directing with creativity and an attention to detail, but most of all I loved that every child in Grades 7 and 8 took part. They won’t all aspire to be performers, but the ability to present yourself confidently is a key life skill and absolutely necessary to be an international game-changer.
Term 4 is a term of examinations, especially for our Grade 10s and Grade 12s who write their IGCSE and IBDP examinations. Grade 6 will be studying hard in preparation for their iPSLE exams in June and July. It is very important to ensure that your children are well rested during the holidays. It is tempting to do nothing but revise for the upcoming tests, but students need to have a clear head and be alert when they return. They can achieve this, along with giving their mental health a good boost, but allowing themselves to have some fun over the holidays!
I wish all our families a great term break, and to those celebrative, a very happy Easter and Lebaran holidays.
Very best wishes,
Dr Dan
