DR DAN’S DIARY

Dear SIS-PIK Families,
As October comes to a close, I’m reflecting on what has been another memorable month at SIS-PIK. This issue of the Community Showcase beautifully captures the spirit – and diversity – of our school, from the energy of our sports fields to the warmth of our classrooms.
Our SIS Olympics returned for the first time in five years, and what an event it was! Athletes from all grades came together in friendly competition, and the bonds they formed were just as meaningful as the medals. My favourite photograph? Two students, one from SIS-PIK and the other from Medan, arm in arm – a perfect example of the friendships and memories made, bridging islands and creating connections.
September to October also brought us a special Teachers’ Month, dedicated to honouring our incredible teachers. This month-long celebration culminated in a vibrant Teachers’ Day on October 4th where our school prefects, led by Denzel, showed heartfelt appreciation with gratitude and creativity. Their efforts reminded us all of the deep respect our students have for their mentors, making it a truly touching and uplifting experience. Everyone was tired, having just returned from exhilarating Learning Journey’s – but this did not stop the fun, enthusiasm and kindness of the day. We hope to see a reprise one day of Ms Gan and Mr Yan playing Jasmine and Aladdin!
Our Learning Journeys were once again in full swing, taking Grades 7-12 to different parts of Indonesia. From exploring Surakarta’s batik heritage to snorkelling the reefs of Bunaken, these experiences have enriched our students’ understanding of our country and of each other. Each journey taught them valuable lessons in responsibility, empathy, and teamwork—cornerstones of our values at SIS-PIK.
You can read more about all these events and achievements in this issue of the Community Showcase, as well as hearing about some amazing personal achievements of our students in prestigious international competitions.
