A Message from Ms Jen

“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.” – Henry David Thoreau
I love this quote by Henry David Thoreau. It has inspired many to be confident to pursue their dreams and goals.

I often ponder; how can schools empower students to discover and pursue their dreams?

I think our teachers are incredibly important to inspire and empower our students to do more than what was expected, such as exploring their talents and helping our students discover their dreams. It has been one of my greatest pleasures this year to watch the students in our JC soar, as they take their CAS projects to Greater Heights.

Here are just some examples of how our JC students have gone confidently in the direction of their dreams:

  • Inspired by the Harvard Model MUN, our very own SIS-PIK students, have begun their own Model United Nations (MUN) program. Last Friday, Steven and Patricia invited over 100 students, and 15 schools to participate. The students started organising this event in October, carefully planning and working together collaboratively to put on this prestigious event.  You can read more about it below.
  • In January, our JC organised the SIS-PIK Cup. This was an incredible event. Over 20 schools, and over 500 athletes attended. The students organised vendors, fund raising, referees – the list is endless. The final closing ceremony was incredible. Two celebrity acts supporting our own homegrown SIS-PIK talented singers.
  • Our JC also organise the Halloween Bazaar, and our Family Day Bazaar. Both events have become staples in our list of yearly events.

These types of empowering experiences are important. They help students develop the skills they need in life, and to be future leaders. We want our students to gain confidence, love learning, and develop life skills, and most importantly get the encouragement they need to continue in the direction of their dreams and interests.

Students need to belong to a school who believes in them and empower them to discover and follow their dreams. They need teachers who can see beyond grades and unlock the potential of the whole child. They also need to belong to a school who cares about them as individuals and inspire them to grow. The best schools, and the best teachers are those who nurture and educate the whole child. I thank our parents for your support, to help us aspire to be the best school we can be.
