INDEPENDENCE WEEK

The Indonesian Independence Day 2024 Celebration at SIS-PIK was a very special occasion. “Gotong Royong” is an Indonesian wisdom meaning sharing of burdens between the members of a community. It is one of the local wisdoms we rarely see nowadays, especially in big cities such as Jakarta. However at SIS-PIK, Teachers, Non-Teaching Staff (NTS), Student Council (STUCO) and Prefects worked together to put up a fantastic week-long celebration. Our theme this year was Indonesia Maju. We had a wide range of activities happening across levels from Monday, August 12 to Friday, August 16. We had Lip Sync Battle which featured many Indonesian National songs in High School, Art making in Preschool and Primary, Class Photo Competition, Seminars and Pentas Seni. 

In a highlight for our High School, we were honoured to welcome prominent speakers, Melissa Sunjaya and Celerina Judisari. From Melissa, the founder of the brand TULISAN, our  students learnt about exploring creativity, producing sustainable products, empowering local communities and business ethics. From Celerina Judisari, who is a business woman, movie producer and event director, students were amazed to find out that she was the person behind the opening of Asian Games XVIII in 2018 – the ceremony where President Joko Widodo showed his jumping action in his big motorcycle. However, most importantly, students learnt about the importance of discipline and building work ethics as well as forming good teamwork.

The highlight for the whole school we can say is the Flag Raising Ceremony and Pentas Seni. Here, once again, the spirit of “Gotong Royong” was truly visible and strongly felt. Everyone took part in ensuring that Indonesian Independence Day was running smoothly and everybody had fun doing it. Happy Indonesian Independence Day! MERDEKAAA!!!
