K2 TO GRADE 1 TRANSITION PROGRAMME
The K2 to Grade 1 transition programme was held last Saturday, 24th of May 2025. It was a day full of learning from both the incoming Grade 1 students with their parents. The event targeted both parents and students who will be entering Grade 1 at SIS-PIK in Academic Year 2025-2026.
Often, preschool students require a bridging strategy to help them understand and be confident to enter Primary School. Without an effective transition programme, preschool students are mentally and cognitively not prepared to face drastic changes in their learning requiring a higher degree of independence, decision-making and longer stretches of time.
This programme supported Kindergarten 2 SIS-PIK students and new students by introducing them to a Grade 1 environment and varied activities were organised by the Grade 1 teachers. Grade 1 classrooms were set up and lessons were given such as Number bonds, Reading Activity and independently had their snack time at the canteen on that day.
Dr Dan, Ms Junaida, Primary Coordinators and Head of Departments were there as well to support parents at the Mini Auditorium as the event was also designed for a Parent Workshop and a talk ‘Preparing Your Child for Grade 1 with Confidence’. They also informed parents and potential parents of the SIS-PIK Primary curriculum, the rigour and how they can help their child at home. A section of the event was dedicated to discussing common anxieties parents and children face when moving up to primary school.
Indeed, both the parents and the incoming Grade 1 students of SIS-PIK had a good understanding of what the learning journeys of a Grade 1 student is like at SIS-PIK.
