K2 TO GRADE 1 TRANSITION PROGRAMME

On May 18, 2024, SIS-PIK’s Preschool and Primary Department hosted a highly anticipated K2 to Grade 1 Transition Programme. This event was designed to ease the transition for Kindergarten students moving up to the first grade, providing them with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with their new learning environment, meet their future teachers, and engage with the upcoming curriculum in a fun and supportive setting.

The day began with a warm welcome from the school’s Preschool and Primary teams at the registration area. The K2 students were guided to their future classrooms, where the teachers had thoughtfully prepared engaging activities that mirrored the Grade 1 curriculum, allowing the young students to get a taste of what lies ahead. These activities included interactive reading aloud, story time, and basic maths games, all tailored to capture the students’ interest and enthusiasm.

While the students were engaged in classroom activities, the parents were led to the school’s mini auditorium. They were greeted by our Head of School, Dr Dan, who highlighted the significance of this milestone in the children’s educational journey. He emphasised the school’s commitment to making this transition as smooth as possible, ensuring that each child feels confident and excited about starting Grade 1. Ms Junaida, our Head of Preschool and Primary, then introduced and explained the school’s Primary curriculum.

The programme featured several sessions aimed at building familiarity and comfort. Most of the sessions focused on strategies to support their children during this transitional phase. Topics covered included establishing routines, fostering independence, and encouraging a positive attitude towards learning. Parents were provided with resources and tips on how to create a conducive learning environment at home. The Primary coordinators shared insights into the daily schedule, homework policies, and the overall learning objectives for Grade 1. A dedicated dental workshop was also held for the parents.

The closing session reiterated the school’s dedication to supporting each child through their educational journey and thanked the parents for their ongoing collaboration and trust.
