INTRODUCING OUR NEW STAFF
Mr Philipus Labi – Whole School Catholic Teacher and High School Civics Teacher

I was born in Lembata, Flores. From 1994 until 1997, I was studying Carmelite Spirituality at Saint Joseph Carmelite Seminary/Monastery in Bajawa, Flores. Then, from 1997 till 2001, I studied Philosophy and Theology at Widya Mandira Catholic University (Universitas Katolik Widya Mandira) in Kupang, Timor.
Between 2001 and 2011, I taught Philosophy and Catholicism at PGRI University and at a number of high schools in Kupang City. In 2012, I moved to Jakarta and became a Catholicism and Civics teacher at two Senior High Schools in Jakarta and Banten. Now, I am focusing on my job as a Catholicism and Civics teacher at SIS-PIK in Jakarta.
As a seminarist, my mission is not only to impart knowledge to students, but also to demonstrate a good example, to support them to improve their behaviour and attitude. I wish and pray for all my SIS-PIK students to have a successful and happy future. God bless them all. Thank you.
Ms Cecilia Escalona – Primary Teacher

“By learning you will teach; by teaching you will learn.” – Latin Proverb
Ms Cecil believes that a teacher should be a lifelong learner, never feeling as though they’ve learnt it all – and to remain open to new experiences. She constantly looks forward to learning new strategies and techniques that will be beneficial for her students. Embracing active learning activities that stimulate intellectual camaraderie, argumentation, and cooperative problem solving lay a foundation for life-long collaborative practices in teaching. She was awarded her undergraduate degree, a Bachelor of Secondary Education in Mathematics from Batangas State University, and has earned graduate degree units on a Master of Arts in Education in Mathematics from Batangas State University. She has taught in the Philippines in Primary and Secondary in both public and private schools for 6 years before coming to Indonesia. She has also trained students to compete in different mathematics competitions in the Philippines.
She taught at SIS-PIK for 12 years, teaching Mathematics, Social Studies, and Arts and Crafts before taking a two year break during the pandemic. Considering SIS-PIK as her second home here in Indonesia, she was delighted to return this year. The training and lectures she has received during her stay in the school has strengthened her skills and competence in teaching mathematics.
The pandemic did not stop her learning new skills as she followed her aquatic passion and received training and certification in scuba diving.
Ms Cecil is looking forward to more productive and fun learning experiences back at SIS-PIK.
Mr Ahmad Apriyanto – High School Mathematics Teacher

Mr Ahmad was born in Bekasi, West Java, and lived nearby his Primary School. As a child, he observed many teachers and their teaching styles. One time, he imagined himself to be a teacher, without knowing what subject he could teach. When he was in Primary 4, he joined an abacus lesson and finished the course in Secondary 2. As time went by, his knowledge and skills in Mathematics progressed well. Once he entered Junior College level, he decided to be a Mathematics teacher.
Mr Ahmad studied Mathematics in Sampoerna University, majoring in Mathematics Education in 2010, and graduated in 2014. Upon graduation, he directly worked in a private school. Through his career, he has learnt different curricula such as the American College Programme, IB Middle Years Programme, IB Diploma Programme, and Cambridge AS/A Level. At SIS-PIK, he teaches Cambridge Extended Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, and IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation.
Besides indoor activities such as exploring Mathematics tools for students’ learning, Mr Ahmad also loves outdoor activities such as spending his long break to go hiking and camping.
