PRESCHOOL LEARNING JOURNEY
Last Wednesday, 18 October 2022, SIS-PIK Preschool conducted an in-house Learning Journey by inviting the Godong Ijo team to school. They brought nature vibes to school through activities including feeding animals, decorating windmills and “Otok-otok” traditional toys, and also playing traditional games such as “bakiak” and “egrang bamboo”. Preschool children experience education and learning processes which aren’t limited to the classroom environment. We give the children real-life and hands-on experience as one of the methods for better learning. It is an opportunity to come out of the classroom and embrace natural surroundings, in the company of classmates and peers. It makes learning more joyful, tangible, authentic, and meaningful. It connects children to the larger world around them.
After the activity with Godong Ijo, we extended the learning within the week and incorporated it with our Resourcefulness Week. We organised reflection sessions and kept the children’s sense of wonder and curiosity alive. When the students returned to the classroom, resources were provided to guide students in exploring the topics which had caught their attention during the field trip.
Children remade the windmill using resources they had in the classroom. They were excited about this learning journey activity and expressed how refreshing the adventure had been for them.
