SIS OLYMPICS
SIS Olympics Experience
Sports
It’s BACK! The much anticipated and much awaited SIS Olympics has returned and it was an amazing experience for everyone involved. As early as August, the PE department selected students to represent the school in its sports events. The events included; swimming, football, badminton, volleyball, basketball, and track & field.
Day 1 started with swimming, soccer, and badminton. We had a good haul of medals for the swimming event showing their quickness and grace, winning a good number of bronze and silver medals and one gold, while our badminton players showed consistency and focus as they fought a good fight gaining 2 gold medals, and two bronze and silver medals. Our soccer teams played their hearts out and showed great character and sportsmanship. Our category B, C, and D fell short of a 3rd place finish, but our category F team bagged the bronze medal with an exciting match that needed a penalty shootout to decide the winner! A big congratulations to our category A kids for bringing home the gold!
Day 2 had volleyball for boys, basketball for girls, and table tennis. Our boys’ volleyball category F put on a brave fight and won silver, while their younger counterparts in category E won bronze. The girls’ basketball team category E meanwhile, noting it was their very first tournament and most of the team members were beginners, had a rollercoaster of emotions as they fought tooth and nail to secure a 3rd place finish. Our table tennis team, on the other hand, dispatched their opponents easily as they got 2 gold medals and a bronze medal to end the day.
Day 3 saw our boys’ basketball team, girls’ volleyball team, and tennis team shine. All the boys’ basketball teams brought home trophies, with categories C and F securing 3rd place, and category D narrowly missing the top spot, finishing in 2nd place. In volleyball, both girls’ teams in categories E and F put up a valiant effort and brought home 2nd place trophies, just falling short of the gold. Our tennis team gave it their all and, like the others, finished as runners-up, bringing home 2nd place in the tournament.
Day 4 featured the parade of athletes and the final event—the track and field competition. Our boys and girls from Grades 1 to 12 showcased their speed in front of a packed crowd at Stadion Atletik Rawamangun. We kicked off the medal haul with an outstanding performance from one of our Grade 6 athletes, who won gold in the 400 metres event. This was followed by several silver and bronze medals in the boys’ and girls’ 200 and 100 metres. We ended the day with a gold medal and two silver medals in the 4×100 metres and 4×50 metres relay races.
The SIS Olympics concluded on a high note, leaving athletes and spectators with lasting memories of camaraderie, competition, and achievement. The diverse range of events highlighted the school’s athletic talent and team spirit, with many students delivering outstanding performances. As we look forward to next year’s tournament, the success of this year’s event will undoubtedly inspire even more students to strive for the gold.

Public Speaking, Debate, MUN
From 16th to 18th October, SIS-PIK was proud to host, virtually, the critical thinking events as part of the SIS Olympics. These competitions included Model United Nations (MUN), debate, and public speaking, where students from various SIS schools engaged with one another on matters of public significance. The events required research, critical analysis, and verbal dexterity, and the participating students displayed these qualities in abundance, along with many others. We hope that similar events will continue to be hosted by the SIS community to foster greater global-mindedness and to support students in becoming engaged citizens, both nationally and globally.

Performing Arts
The SIS Olympics also had a category for the Performing Arts, and after a very entertaining and exciting ‘SIS-PIK’s Got Talent’ event last month, Hyori Dermawan in Grade 7 was chosen to represent SIS-PIK in the solo talent competition. Whilst Hyori didn’t secure a trophy, she was chosen to open the musical event prior to the Closing Ceremony in the Jakarta International Velodrome. Hyori wowed the audience with her performance. She was followed in the same event by Jenall Jaslyn Ally Shomari in Grade 4, singing a fantastic song from ‘Frozen’ and Mao Yuxin from Grade 2, performing a traditional dance. All our performers were so impressive proving that SIS-PIK has such great talent. They were cheered on by all of our teachers assembled for the Closing Ceremony. Well done girls!
