Grade 11 and 12 Learning Journey to Labuan Bajo: A Journey of Learning, Service, and Compassion

From October 12–16, our Grade 11 and several Grade 12 students embarked on an unforgettable Learning Journey to Labuan Bajo. In preparation for this meaningful experience, the Grade 11 students had spent the past month planning and organising their CAS project through a student-led initiative called “Tunas Peduli.” This organisation was formed to lead all stages of the project ranging from proposal development, fundraising, and logistics, to designing teaching materials and managing donations.

As part of their CAS service, the students carried out a community visit to SDN Gorontalo, where they donated essential school supplies including books, shelves, a printer, lunch boxes, water bottles, laptops, school bags, and angklung instruments. These donations were made possible through the generous support of the SIS-PIK community, who contributed to a month-long fundraising campaign and bake sales. During the visit, the students engaged SDN Gorontalo’s pupils in a variety of interactive lessons in English, Mathematics, Art, Sports, and Music, culminating in a touching angklung performance by the local students.

Beyond their community service, the group also immersed themselves in the rich local culture by visiting Desa Melo, where they learned traditional dances, and explored Golo Mori, the site of the ASEAN Summit. Their journey continued with visits to some of Labuan Bajo’s most iconic natural landmarks such as Padar Island, Pink Beach, Komodo Island, and Taka Makassar. Before heading home, they visited the famous Batu Cermin Cave, a perfect ending to a journey filled with learning, adventure, and acts of kindness.

It was a truly inspiring journey filled with learning, exploration, teamwork, and compassion as an experience that not only broadened their horizons but also strengthened their sense of purpose and empathy.
