KARTINI DAY
On April 21st 2026, Primary School students celebrated Kartini Day. This event honoured the struggle of R.A. Kartini. Thanks to her efforts, women in Indonesia have been able to pursue higher education and enjoy equal rights with men. In her book, Habis Gelap Terbitlah Terang, Kartini wrote letters to her friends in Europe. These letters contained progressive ideas about women’s emancipation, the importance of education, criticism of feudal customs, and the struggle for gender equality in Indonesia.
At this year’s celebration, students were encouraged to wear traditional Indonesian clothing to foster a sense of pride and love for their homeland. The event featured poetry readings, traditional dances, and the singing of regional songs.
There was also a fashion show and a class photo competition. What made this year different was that the school invited parents to participate in a competition called “Menu Sat Set.” Despite their busy schedules, parents – especially mothers – still found time to prepare lunches for their beloved children.
