MODEL UNITED NATIONS (MUN) CONFERENCE

SIS-PIK Hosts Its Inaugural Model United Nations Conference

From 17 to 18 January 2026, SIS-PIK successfully hosted its inaugural Model United Nations (MUN) Conference, welcoming 183 student delegates from a range of schools across Jakarta and beyond. Participating schools included Mentari Intercultural School Bintaro, Santa Laurensia School, Bina Bangsa School PIK, Sinarmas World Academy, BINUS Simprug and Serpong campuses, Sekolah Pelita Harapan (SPH), Labschool, and Al Azhar. The conference was supported by experienced coaches and chairs, including Chico Athalla.

The conference was organised primarily by Junior High School students from Grades 8, 9, 10, and 12, demonstrating strong leadership and collaboration throughout the planning and execution of the event. With the theme ‘Addressing Immigration and the Right to Assimilation’, delegates engaged in thoughtful discussions on pressing global issues through a variety of councils.

These councils included the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), which examined state-sanctioned exploitation and modern slavery; the International Labour Organization (ILO), which focused on financial and structural barriers to migrant employment; and UNICEF, which addressed the protection of refugee children working in foreign countries. Other councils explored immigration enforcement policies in the United States, regional refugee tensions between Thailand and Cambodia, and historical and fictional scenarios through the Crisis Council and Special Council formats.

Throughout the conference, delegates demonstrated strong analytical thinking, effective communication skills, and a growing awareness of relevant issues. Outstanding chairs facilitated engaging debate sessions and recognised delegates who showed exceptional ability in discussion, position paper writing, and solution-building.

The SIS-PIK MUN Organising Committee, led by Charlito Rizki Gunawan (Grade 9), gained invaluable experience through the process of planning and hosting a conference of this scale. While the journey presented challenges, it ultimately reflected the committee’s dedication, teamwork, and passion for Model United Nations. The inaugural SIS-PIK MUN Conference marked a meaningful milestone for the school community and set a strong foundation for future conferences to come.
