DR DAN’S DIARY
Dear SIS-PIK Families,

It has been another busy month at SIS-PIK, with plenty of opportunities to celebrate our students, learn together as a staff and think about how we can continue to improve our school.
Last week, we celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival, and it was wonderful to see the school community come together for an evening of fun, food and celebration. Our High School students did a fantastic job organising and running a range of games and activities, which were enjoyed by students and families throughout the evening. There was, of course, plenty of good food to enjoy as well! The highlight for me was the switching on of the lights. Seeing the campus come alive as the lights were turned on was a magical moment and a lovely way to bring the celebration together.
We have also had the opportunity to see some impressive academic work from our Grade 12 students through their Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Exhibition. Congratulations to all of our students who took part. The exhibition challenged them to think deeply about how knowledge is created, communicated and understood, and to connect these ideas with the world around them. It was clear that the process had stretched our students academically and intellectually, and I was very impressed by the quality of their work and the confidence with which they shared their thinking.
Another important focus recently has been sustainability. Our whole staff took part in professional development focused on waste management and on finding practical ways that we can become a more sustainable school. Sustainability is an important part of our responsibility to our students, our community and the wider country, and it was inspiring to see our staff fully engaged in thinking creatively about what we can do differently.
This work also connects closely with the feedback we received during our recent Council of International Schools Preparatory Engagement visit. The visiting team highlighted the positive culture across SIS-PIK and the breadth of our curriculum, both of which are important strengths of our school. They will also support us as we develop our work around sustainability, helping us to think carefully about how we can turn our commitment into meaningful and lasting action.
Whether it is celebrating our students, challenging them to think more deeply or working together to improve the school we share, these are the things that make SIS-PIK such a special community. There is a great deal to be proud of, and plenty for us to continue working towards together.
Wishing everyone a wonderful term break ahead,
Dr Dan
