SCHOOL REOPENING IN JULY 2021

On July 19th 2021, we will open our hybrid program. This will include both face-to-face learning as well as our well established virtual learning program. Parents may choose to continue with the virtual learning program if it makes them feel more comfortable.

In our SIS-PIK Community Updates #19 – 16 April 2021 we provided you the information of how we will keep our community safe through 0 transmissions by teachers, staff, and from facilities, and also how to reduce risk of transmission between students.

We will provide more updates on our reopening procedures in each Community Update. For this week, we want to share how we will support students emotionally as they return to school. Your child may feel apprehensive about returning to school. We have put strategies in place to let them know they are loved and cared for.

Support Services for Students Returning to School

Returning to the school buildings after lockdown may seem strange at first for some. We will all have different experiences of lockdown and working online, and for all our students, those joining us for the first time and those returning. We will do our utmost to ensure student well-being. Our two main areas of focus will be: managing change and being able to adjust to the new systems in school; and nurturing friendships and strengthening bonds after being apart for many, many months.

Homeroom teachers will continue to have daily contact and interaction with their Homeroom and are the first port of call for settling into school and helping the students adapt to new routines and expectations. Homeroom teachers will support students’ emotional needs and monitor their academic progress.

Preschool, Primary, Secondary and JC Coordinators will maintain an overview of their sections, supporting Homeroom teachers, and they are taking a lead in delivering a programme of support through these changing times.

Assemblies will be broadcast online to homerooms (to avoid large gatherings), and these assemblies will focus on wellbeing topics at regular intervals each term. Individual students will still be able to meet with the School Counselor, and this should be arranged in advance to avoid potential crowding at the School Counselor office. Social distancing will be observed whenever we meet with a student.

We thank you for your trust and support. We are strongest, when we stand together.
