STEAM FESTIVAL IN PRESCHOOL & PRIMARY

Preschool STEAM Festival: Small Actions, Big Impact

Our preschoolers have embarked on an exciting journey to explore how their daily sustainable actions can have a significant impact on our planet. Through the STEAM Festival, the hallways have been transformed into a vibrant showcase of creativity, featuring artwork from their Art Jam sessions and displaying the thoughtful efforts of our N1, N2, K1, and K2 students. Their projects beautifully reflect their commitment to protecting the land, air, and water—demonstrating how even the smallest hands can contribute to a healthier Earth.

Live activity stations provide children with hands-on experiences, such as rescuing animals and providing shelter, as well as sorting and recycling waste materials to reinforce the importance of environmental care.

For our K1 and K2 students, the festival is also an opportunity to present their projects and share their processes and findings with parents. They proudly demonstrate how their innovations work, offering insights into their problem-solving skills and creativity. Through this interactive experience, children are empowered to take responsibility for the environment, fostering a deep sense of care and stewardship for our planet.

This celebration of learning serves as a reminder to us all that every small step—whether recycling, conserving resources, or protecting wildlife—contributes to a brighter, more sustainable future.

Primary School

March 10th-15th 2025 saw the exciting SIS-PIK Primary STEAM Festival once again. Our theme this year was ‘Innovation & Action = A Better Future’ where students both displayed their creativity and competed against each other. Students were able to explore some of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with a fun-filled week of educational activities for everyone.

Art Jam
Students explored their creative side in the Art Jam; engineering, design and imagination allowed students’ minds to run wild!  Some of the projects included:

Grade 1 – Safari Collage
Grade 2 – Life Below Water Collage
Grade 3 – Save The Water Comic
Grade 4 – Clean Sanitation Comic
Grade 5 – Energy Conservation Poster
Grade 6 – Bridge Ice Cream Sticks

Robotics Exhibition
In IT class, students spent the term preparing for an impressive Robotics Exhibition. Blue Planet Robotics: Saving Oceans, Fighting Climate Change showcased remarkable creations and structures born from our students’ imaginations, with each grade level focusing on a different UN Sustainable Development Goal.

The Primary Robotics Exhibition featured innovative robots designed to protect oceans, reduce pollution, and combat climate change. Alongside this, a VR exhibition by Grade 5 and 6 students, created using CoSpaces, highlighted the role of technology in promoting quality education. This event demonstrated how young learners integrate robotics and virtual reality to drive positive change for both the planet and education.

STEAM Olympiad
In the STEAM Olympiad, students took part in an exciting event to individually answer challenging STEAM related questions. These took place in a series of elimination rounds based on age. The winners from each heat came together in age based teams for the Grand Final to see who were the champions of STEAM. With their classmates cheering them on, the Finalists all went back to class as heroes!

Project Work
Students worked hard throughout the term to complete collaborative STEAM projects in the classroom that were showcased in the amazing STEAM Exhibition. We saw hydroponic plants growing, virtual classrooms displayed on our Virtual Reality headsets and some pizza box board games designed around the UNSDGs. The results astounded us all and students loved exploring each other’s creativity.

Young Inventors Award
Our Young Inventors showcased remarkable creativity and innovation while designing and building prototypes to make the world a better place. Their impressive creations and articulate presentations demonstrated a deep understanding of and engagement with the UNSDGs. Congratulations to all the winners on their outstanding achievements!

House Challenge
The House Challenge gave us a day of STEAM related puzzles and games held around the school. The environment was competitive, yet fun, allowing students from different grade levels to work together with their house team using collaborative efforts to be successful. Seeing students having fun, being challenged and being so supportive of each other was a sight to behold. The House Challenge not only celebrated academic prowess but also strengthened the sense of community and teamwork within the school.
