GRADE 7-10 LEARNING JOURNEY

Grade 7: Bandung, here we come!
Grade 7 students were excited to be on their first Learning Journey. For many of them, this is their first time away from their parents. For many, this experience is both scary and exciting, but they were excited to have fun with their friends. The theme for our Learning Journey this Academic Year, 2025-2026 is “From Indonesia to Global Achievements”. Students experienced firsthand the Sundanese culture, natural resources in West Java as well as  the development of Science, Technology, Art (Culture), Engineering and Math in Indonesia. Always implementing the 4Rs, SIS PEAK’s Learning Journey programme goal is showing and teaching students about the opportunities that they can have by learning about the opulence resources Indonesia has to gain success and achievements globally.

Within the four days and three nights learning programme, students had outbound activities, visited one of the oldest tea plantations, checked out the modern technology in the production factory of Eiger, learned how to play “angklung”, at Saung Mang Udjo, explored the Lembang Zoo and visited the largest geology museum in South East Asia, Museum Geologi Bandung. They had the opportunity to not only visit educational places, but also have fun with their friends while building their resilience, resourcefulness and perseverance.

Grade 8: Exploring Indonesia’s Cultural Heritage – A Learning Journey to Surakarta
The learning journey to Surakarta (Solo) offered students a valuable opportunity to explore Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage first hand. During this educational trip, students learned about the traditional art of batik making, one of Indonesia’s most renowned cultural treasures recognised by UNESCO. By visiting local batik workshops, students observed the intricate process of designing, waxing, and dyeing fabric. The philosophical meanings behind each motif. In addition to learning about batik, students visited historical buildings such as the Pura Mangkunegaran Palace, where they gained insights into the city’s royal history and Javanese architectural styles. These sites provided a living reflection of Indonesia’s past, allowing students to appreciate how tradition and modernity coexisted in everyday life. The journey also included exploration of local cuisine and cultural performances, giving students a deeper understanding of the diversity and warmth of Indonesian culture. Tasting traditional dishes such as nasi liwet, serabi Solo, and tengkleng allowed students to experience the unique flavours that characterise Javanese culinary art. Through this immersive experience, students not only enhanced their knowledge of Indonesia’s cultural identity but also developed respect and appreciation for the nation’s living traditions.

Exploring the Majesty of Yogyakarta – Grade 9 Learning Journey
The Grade 9 students embarked on a remarkable four-day Learning Journey to Yogyakarta, a city celebrated as the heart of Javanese culture and heritage. The adventure began with a scenic train ride from Jakarta to the historic Tugu Station, setting the tone for a week filled with discovery and wonder. Their first stop was the world-renowned Borobudur Temple, where students marvelled at its architectural brilliance and spiritual symbolism, reflecting on how ancient civilisations blended science, faith, and artistry. The second day took them to Ledok Sambi, where they engaged in team-building activities surrounded by lush greenery and flowing rivers — strengthening their friendships while learning the values of collaboration, leadership, and perseverance. Later, at Prambanan Temple, they stood in awe of its towering stone spires, uncovering stories from the Ramayana and the ingenuity of ancient engineering.

The third day offered a thrilling encounter with nature through the Merapi Lava Tour, where students explored the landscapes shaped by one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes. The experience deepened their understanding of geology, resilience, and human adaptation to nature’s forces. They then visited Malioboro Street and Vredeburg Fort, immersing themselves in local crafts, history, and the vibrant rhythm of city life. Each meal — from Kampung Ulam to Obelix Hills — became a chance to savour Yogyakarta’s warm hospitality and diverse flavours. By the end of the journey, students returned not only with beautiful memories but with a deeper appreciation of Indonesia’s cultural richness, scientific wonders, and the values of curiosity and respect. Truly, this Learning Journey allowed them to experience firsthand the majesty of Yogyakarta — a living classroom that inspired both the mind and the heart.
